The Nanny Diaries

I just watched one of my favorite movies in the world, Nanny Diaries. I never cry during movies (maybe a walk to remember....) but this one gets me. I can relate to it so easily. I could write a book of things I have been through. I have been watching kids since I was eleven. If you haven't seen this movie you need to watch it. I have actually babysat for moms who are similar to the rude mother in the movie. (none of you p.s.) You do get attached to the kids...I was a nanny for this certain family one summer, and as much as I complained about how mean the one little 4 year old boy was, I miss him. He was never paid attention to because he had four other siblings. The first day I went over to meet him he made up a song called "kill the babysitter." I was not a fan of that tune, but I decided to just give it a shot. It took months for him to warm up to me, and it was frustrating. Even to the point of the dad saying in front of him "what did we do wrong with this one?" They weren't mean parents, but I ended up doing things they should have done for their kids. I came over often while the mother wanted some alone time. This little boy had even attempted to throw a fondue fork at me, hit me, etc. He even locked me out of the house for a long period of time. He was just a stubborn, little kid. He was so mean to me, but I found his weakness one night. He hated falling asleep alone, so I had to lay next to him until he would fall asleep. I could see the fear in his eyes as I would try to inch away and leave his room. He would grab my hand and not let go. There is a scene in this movie just like that. The next couple of weeks were a lot easier and he broke my heart one day when he said "are you going to leave me? " I guess they had gone through their fair share of nannies, and he would get attached to one, and then they would leave. It wasn't easy dealing with the mother because she demanded such ridiculous things from me, but I wanted to stay just for him. However I do pray for whoever is their nanny right now. I'm sure I could give some tips. :)

First of all, anyone who didn't cry in Walk To Remember is NOT human!!! Secondly, I have babysat for kids like that in my day - one lacked me out of his room and cut a whole in the window screen and RAN AWAY! When I called his mom she said "oh, he'll come home when he gets hungry". WHAT?!?!?!?!

Makes ya thankful for loving parents, huh?

We appreciate nannies like you who stick it out with our "at times" difficult children. Takes a lot of patience and a special person like you!

As a recipient of your "nanning", we love you. And never seen the movie, but might have to.
